Early Life
Nokukhanya Mseleku was born on 13 June 1982 in Oshabeni, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Career
MaYeni made her reality television debut in 2017 on the hit Mzansi Magic series Uthando Nes’thembu, a show which follows the lives of Musa Mseleku and his many wives.
She also stars in the spin-off series, Izingane Zes’thembu, which focuses on the Mseleku children. She also co-hosts the reality talk show Igumbi Lamakhosikazi alongside her co-wives.
Aside from television, MaYeni has established herself in fashion. She launched a clothing business in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal, in 2019. She was forced to close it due to early operational challenges.
She later opened the boutique Mayeni Fashion Collection, which offers dresses, shoes, shirts, skirts, pants, and sneakers for all body types. She has also modelled for the well-known plus-size fashion brand Phat Girlz Boutique.
Controversy
MaYeni made headlines when she temporarily moved out of the Mseleku family home in Umzumbe. She openly stated that the move was to protect her mental health and seek “peace of mind.”
She packed her bags and returned to her maiden home in Oshabeni to avoid the drama stirred up by Musa’s intention to have a fifth wife. She attended important family meetings and ceremonies but returned to Oshabeni immediately afterwards.
Her decision resonated with audiences, and the word “Oshabeni” started trending across social media as a viral slang term symbolising boundaries and mental peace.
Personal Life
MaYeni married polygamist Musa Mseleku in 2007. After many years of marriage, the couple celebrated their union with lavish traditional and white weddings in 2019. They share three children, including Mpumelelo, Mnini, and Obanzi.
Their relationship began long before their wedding day. They first met in 1997, and MaYeni’s father initially disapproved of Musa’s openly polygamous intentions. So Musa paid lobola for Busisiwe “MaCele” Mseleku first.
