Nompumelelo Portia Tshabalala (born 17 April 1991), known by the stage name Mpumi Mtsweni, is an award-winning South African gospel singer, songwriter, and worship leader.
Mpumi is a lead vocalist for Spirit of Praise. She has featured in the gospel group’s hit tracks “Thath’Indawo” (2022), “Bheka Ezulwini Medley” (2023), and “Ukhona” (2025).

Background
Mpumi Mtsweni was born on 17 April 1991 in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. She grew up in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga. She gets her musical gene from her mother, Ntompela Winnie Mtshweni.
She started music when she was four years old and sang as a worship leader at her local church, New Life Missionary Church. Her mother sadly passed away on 27 May 2026.
Education
Mpumi Mtsweni studied Electrical Engineering at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). She graduated at 21 years old.
Career
Mpumi rose to national stardom in Johannesburg after joining the mega-gospel collaboration, “Spirit of Praise Volume 8″. She also performed “Thath’Indawo” alongside the worship choir Spirit of Praise.
She won Best Live Recording at the 2018 Ingoma Awards and Best Song in Africa at the Crown Gospel Awards.
She recorded her debut album, “Getsemane” Season 1, in 2019 and later released Getsemane Season 2 (Live) in 2022. She has released another project, Nkulunkulu Munye (My Worship Is My Weapon Live), in 2025.
On 9 April 2023, she was named among the gospel singers set to perform at the Moja LOVE Easter Gospel Festival at Carnival City. She has worked with artists like Bishop Benjamin Dube, Mmatema, Obrey M, Takie Ndou, and Lebo Sekgobela.

Mpumi Mtsweni is married to Emmanuel Mfundo. They are proud parents.
